Falling inlove with a bestfriend

Dear Ate Xyla,

I met my guy best friend way back freshman year College. We’re both currently junior nursing kids and we’ve been through a lot of sh*t together. He’s always been there for me & vice versa. We do a lot of things together - shop, study, bum around, cram & loads more.

Recently I’v been sort of realizing that day by day, I’m starting to fall for him. The only problem is, or should I say are:

1. He’s recently broken up with his gf, that used to be a classmate of mine.
2. I’m scared of rejection.
3. I’m scared that it would ruin the friendship.
4. I’m just plain scared. :[

What’s the best thing to do? I need nursing intervention. :\

- his besfriend

Aww. Are you friends with his ex? Because if not, then there’s nothing wrong about that. I mean, you are really close with each other so there’s no doubt that someone might fall in love with the other… In your case, it’s you. If the ex-girlfriend is open-minded, I am sure she would understand if you guys take it to the next level.

But the question is, no offense meant, is the feeling reciprocated? That is what we do not know. So for now, what you should do is to be able to view both sides of the story. If he doesn’t love you back, there are still many fishes in the sea. He might not be the one for you. Friendship is really at stake here. That’s the reality. BUT, for some people, they were able to save it because they know how to handle the relationship and they were able to accept and understand each other. That’s what you need to do.

I understand what you feel. It’s normal. You’re a student nurse and I know that you know that negative feelings in such situation is normal. You just need to prepare yourself for whatever will happen. Remember, just like in the nursing world, in life expect the unexpected.

Just enjoy the friendship. Don’t rush. Don’t waste your time thinking if he likes you back or not. What’s important is that your friendship with him is real. :) I hope that made you feel better.
